Entry Requirements

Secondary Teacher Training Programme

Minimum entry requirements

  • A recognised awarded honours degree (or equivalent) of at least 2:2 classification with at least 50% of the degree content being in the subject to be taught although consideration will be given outside this criteria on a case-to-case basis

  • GCSE (or equivalent) to at least Grade C or Grade 4 in English and Mathematics

Maths and English Proficiency

Applicants are expected to be competent in fundamental English and Mathematics skills. This will be tested during the interview and throughout the teacher training programme.

The Fundamental English Assessment will focus on the ability to understand and communicate clearly in accurate written Standard English, while the Fundamental Mathematics Assessment will focus on the ability to calculate mathematical calculations, interpret data and graphs.

Primary Teacher Training Programme

  • A recognised awarded honours degree (or equivalent) of at least 2:2 classification with at least 50% of the degree content being in the subject to be taught although consideration will be given outside this criteria on a case-to-case basis

  • GCSE (or equivalent) to at least Grade C or Grade 4 in English, Mathematics and Science

Additional information regarding entry requirements are:

  • Health and physical capacity to teach - All PLS training places will be offered conditionally subject to a successful ‘Fitness to Teach’ check. Successful applicants will be asked to complete a fitness questionnaire prior to commencing the programme.

  • DBS - All PLS training places will be offered conditionally subject to a successful DBS check.

  • Non UK Qualifications - Prospective PLS teachers will provide a NARIC Statement of Comparability for GCSE/A Level examinations and degrees which will measure the candidate’s understanding of the required subject to the appropriate level.  

  • For salaried applicants only - usually 3 years of work experience in any field, however this may be flexible based on standard of application and interview.

  • If a degree is not held in the training subject, an A Level in the training subject must be held.
