Frequently Asked Questions

What forms have to be submitted to apply to St Angela’s?

For entry to St Angela’s, a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) must be submitted to the school, in addition to your Local Authority’s Common Application Form (CAF).

Where can I find the Supplementary Information Form?

The Supplementary Information Form can be downloaded from the school website or from the London Borough of Newham website.

What happens after the Supplementary Information Form is submitted?

For those applying during the normal admissions round (i.e. Year 6 into Year 7), your Local Authority will write to you on national offer day (1st March) to inform you of which school your child has been offered.

For those applying outside of the normal admission round (i.e. in year transfers) you will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing, normally within 10 school days of receiving the SIF.

Is a religious leader reference compulsory?

Applicants who do not produce a Certificate of Catholic Practice/minister or religious leader’s supporting letter with their application will not qualify within their respective category and should not assume an offer of a place.

What happens if my application is late?

Late applications received after the closing date will be considered in accordance with the admissions criteria from the date of receipt but not so as to prejudice decisions already taken after the closing date regarding the allocation of places.

(which simply means that decisions already made giving a place to a child will not be changed to the school receiving a late application)

If my child doesn’t get offered a place, what happens next?

You have the right to appeal the decision made. You will need to complete your Local Authority’s admission appeal form, and write a letter to the school’s Chair of Governors stating you wish to appeal and the grounds for this appeal. In addition to the right of appeal, unsuccessful candidates will be offered the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list.

Will my child’s name be added to a waiting list?

Any applicant who completed both a Supplementary Information Form and a Common Application Form and was not offered a place will be placed on the waiting list for the school year applied in. Parents will be contacted asking them to confirm if they wish to remain on the waiting list. The waiting list will be maintained in order of the over-subscription criteria and not in the order in which applications are received or added to the list.

Can I find out where my daughter is on the waiting list?

We can inform you of where on the waiting list your daughter has been placed.  However parents need to be mindful that waiting lists are subject to change and your child’s position could rise or fall within the current admissions criteria.

Can a student transfer to St Angela’s from another school?

An application can be made for a place at any time outside the admissions round and a child will be admitted where there are available places. You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing, normally within 10 school days of receiving the SIF. If there are no spaces available, the application will be added to the waiting list which is maintained in order of the over-subscription criteria and not in the order in which applications are received or added to the list. The In-Year Supplementary Information Form should be completed and returned to the school. In addition, your Local Authority’s In Year Common Application Form must be completed and returned to them.

Can a student transfer on a Fair Access Protocol?

The school is committed to taking its fair share of children who are vulnerable and/or hard to place as set out in locally agreed protocols. Accordingly, outside the normal admission round the governing body is empowered to give absolute priority to a child where admission is requested under any locally agreed protocol. The governing body has this power even where admitting the child would mean exceeding the published admission number.
