St Angela’ Ursuline School mourns the passing of Ms Anne Betts

ANNE BETTS (nee ESSAM) Ann is currently known as POWELL

Ann joined the staff of Saint Angela's in 1970 . She was one of those teachers who made an outstanding contribution to the school  where she taught home economics.

She was very influential in the development of the Home Economics block still currently situated above the science wing; it was our ROSLA  product  in 1972 . Home Economics was  a popular subject with the girls . It was equally popular with the staff  and she catered with both flair and economy for many different events.

Anne also ran our Duke of Edinburgh courses. An amazing number of girls benefited from this, very many going on to Gold,  but all gaining excellent experience at every level.

Anne had been ill for some time with Parkinson’s and passed away in her sleep on Friday 21st November.

Her funeral will take place Tuesday 23rd December at Bentley Crematorium, Ongar Road, Brentwood, CM15 9RZ, followed by refreshments (from 2.45 - 4.45pm) at Marygreen Manor Hotel, London Road, Brentwood, satnav code CM14 4NS
