The school is deeply committed to raising the achievement of all learners. The Modern Foreign Languages department has been an area of strength within the school achieving results in line with the school's overall achievement.
Staff expertise is such that there are two Advanced Skills languages teachers within the school
We have diversified and increased the provision of languages in terms of number of languages on offer; the level at which they are offered as well as the number of students entered for accreditation at GCSE, as well as increasing the number entered for second language.
As a school we want to expand access to languages: a) within the school curiculum, moving from two languages to offering three b) expanded the opportunities for community languages.
Newham is a culturally rich and diverse area where many languages are used on a daily basis. The school has links both to the local and wider community and we wish to broaden the language provision and experience of our pupils to reflect this as well as equipping them for the future. We celebrate this in our “ Language of the Month” activities
Pupils currently sit Urdu/Arabic/Portuguese/Greek/ Russian/Mandarin and Cantonese. These languages would be offered as part of our out of hours learning provision both to our own pupils and partners as well as to the local community
