Ms Yvette Jarvis - Head of Department and School Sports Co-ordinator
… trained in Dance at Lewisham College and London Contemporary Dance School, before completing a BEd (Hons) in Physical Education at De Montfort University, Bedford. Yvette taught Dance and PE in Twickenham for five years where she was also deputy head of PE. On moving to St. Angela’s in September 2001 Yvette had responsibility for developing the Dance curriculum as teacher in charge of Dance. In May 2005, Yvette was promoted to become head of the department and the School Sports Co-ordinator for St. Angela’s. This involves working with local primary schools to support the teaching of the PE curriculum and pupils’ involvement and achievements in primary school Physical Education. She is also the moderator for GCSE DAnce. Yvette is currently on the Executive Committee for the National Dance Teachers Association and is committed to all children and young people having an excellent PE and Dance education.
Mrs Rachel Coombs - 2 i/c Physical Education and Duke of Edinburgh Co-ordinator
... achieved her 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science and Business Studies from Gloucestershire University and her PGCE from Southampton University. She joined St Angela’s School in September 2003 having taught at La Retraite RC Girls School in South London for two years. Along with her second in charge of department responsibilities, Rachel organises and runs the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award within school which includes all three levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold. Expeditions are taken in areas such as Essex, the South Downs and the Brecon Beacons. She is a keen runner, belongs to the East London Running Club and participates in regional running events when possible. She teaches both GCSE and A-level PE and is in charge of the Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 netball teams.
Ms Caroline Charles
... has been teaching at St Angela’s for the past twelve years; firstly as a supply teacher and then, for the last six years in a permanent position. Caroline has worked in a variety of schools and has gained vast experience from each one. She has brought this experience and knowledge to St. Angela’s and has introduced the pupils to competitive biathlon, athletics, swimming, cross-country and, her speciality, basketball. Within all areas of the PE curriculum she encourages the pupils to live a fit and healthy lifestyle. Caroline is currently assistant coach to the England national U14 female basketball team, a position she has held for the past four years.
Ms Amy Mansfield
....completed her bachelor of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education degree in 2001 at the University of Newcastle in Australia. She taught Physical Education, Health, Sports Science and Community and Family Studies for five years in Australia. Three years at a Year 7-12 school, St Joseph's Aberdeen and two years at St Mary's Maitland a senior college. During this time Amy has been involved in many sporting teams. On arrival in England before joining St Angela’s, she taught for a term at Loretto College, St Albans. Amy is a keen netball and basketball player. She will be taking responsibility for girls’ football and netball throughout her time at St. Angela’s.
