Item One: - Welcome

Bonita announced that she would act as Chair at the behest of the Head teacher Mrs Delia Smith. Bonita welcomed all parents to the evening and set out the plans for the evening.

Item Two: - Introduction

Bonita stated that she was very excited to be chair of the PTA but insisted upon the fact that the PTA had to be a collectively run organization and that all contributions and skills from IT to cake baking, from sewing to face painting would be essential enable events to be varied. Moreover, she stated that everyone did not need to attend every event and that if the tasks and events were shared out evenly no one would feel put upon.

Item Three: - Previous Events and Funds Raised

Current members of the PTA, Bonita Cattle, Corinne Labonte, Frances Suc-Diamond and Delia Smith illustrated some of the events that the PTA had organised in the past such as summer fetes, refreshment provision at parent’s evenings and major events such as the Fame evenings and Music concerts. The importance of maintaining a strong PTA was referred to by all current members as an essential part of our school ethos and to strengthen our sense of community beyond the purely academic. The PTA was commended by the Head teacher, Delia Smith for raising funds for the previous mini-bus and for finding match funding through Jack Petchey.

Item Four: - Future Events

All members of the PTA shared a range of ideas for future events and a very fertile discussion took place concerning how events currently taking place could become bigger fund-raisers. The following were of particular interest:

  • 1. Dance Show - How to make more cash from refreshments
  • 2. Music Concert - How to make more cash from refreshments
  • 3. Christmas Concert-How could we sell drinks after or before the concert outside St. Antony’s Church to raise funds - Mince Pies / Mulled Wine / Irish coffee.
  • 4. How to make more of Parent’s Evenings for the PTA-Sell biscuits and cakes for profit to parents as well as just giving teachers drinks.
  • 5. How to run quiz nights-pay per table/bring own food and drink/pay more and provide food and drink/possible venues - Sixth Form Canteen / Merici Hall / Brescia Hall.
  • 6. The possibility of getting PTA tables in school on certain national days such as Nigerian Day of Independence. Core groups in school – Nigerian / Ghanaian / Filipino / Irish could have specific national days supported by the PTA. All refreshments could go towards PTA funds.

Item Five: - How can you help?

All members were invited to give their mobile and home numbers their email addresses, their skills and their preferences for meeting times. All members agreed that the information could be shared among fellow members of the PTA. Members of the PTA determined times and rotas for the running of all future parent’s evenings and Open Evenings until Christmas.
