Key Stage 3

Year 7 - 9 study History - one period a week.

During Key Stage 3 the pupil learn;

How to ask questions about events a situations and how to place them in order.

How to use evidence to build a picture of life and people in the past.

How to explain why things happen and understand the importance of change.

How to see events, people and situations in a different way and appreciate the past .  

They study various areas from the National Curriculum 

Britain 1066-1900

A European study before 1914

A world study before 1900

A world study after 1900

Year 7 Medieval Realms and the Crusades.

Year 8 Making of the United Kingdom and black people of the American.

Year 9 The Industrial Revolution and conflict in the 20th century.            

G.C.S.E

Year 10 - 11 History is an option and is taught for 2 periods a week

Pupils are entered for OCR. History B (Modern World) - 1937 option

There are two written examinations and a coursework element

Paper 1 - Key questions on International Relations from 1919 and 1989 also questions on USA 1919-1945

Paper 2 - British depth study - How British society changed from 1906-1918

Based on questions about source material

Essay based

Coursework - The Rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany.

Assessment

Students are assessed on their ability to recall, select, organise and use knowledge of content and how they describe, analyse and explain events, people, changes, issues and key features. They must also use historical sources critically showing comprehension, analysis, interpretation and evaluation. Their appreciation of historical interpretation of the content is also examined.
