Field trips

Fieldtrips are a vital part of learning about geography and how the theory looks in reality. Every year group has a visit built into the curriculum and in the sixth form; there are visits to countries like Iceland which was visited in 2003. These are very popular with all students and the staff who accompany the groups and groups also take to the outdoors a Saturday to explore  nearer home

Scheme of Work

In Year 7: The following aspects and geographical concepts are covered: map skills, weather settlement, transport water and rivers. An Internet enquiry into the River Trent is the main assessed work in the year.

Year 8: Farming, agriculture, industry  and the classification of population , power and energy form the basis for study in Year 8 and the main area of study is Kenya. Pupils carry out a Farm Study and compare this to an Industrial Location for their main assessment work

Year 9: Rain, plate techtonics  and other aspects of physical geography plus a study of Japan  take up the rest of the year with a Project to complete on Tourism and a regional study. forest and ecosystems are studied in depth in Year 9
