KEY STAGE 3 CURRICULUM

Drama is taught for one hour a week in years 7 and 8, and are in class-based groups. Year 9 have half a year of Drama, one hour a week, and are taught in smaller, mixed groupings. The work focuses on practical Drama and seeks to develop drama skills and interpersonal skills.  There are opportunities to reflect on the practical work through extension written work.

ASSESSMENT

Students carry out a twice-yearly Drama self-assessment designed to encourage a reflective approach to learning.  This is backed up with teacher comments and one to one discussion on pupil progress

Twice yearly school reports to parents indicate the teacher assessment level that a pupil is working at, and a target level towards which the pupil will work

Above students are viewed in one of their practical lesson where they are performing explorative strategies. (Still Image)

KS4

Students have two hours of Drama a week in years 10 and 11.  There is no written exam, but written portfolio work is required.  Assessment is based on this and practical work.

PAPER 1 DRAMA COURSEWORK 60%

UNIT 1 - Drama Exploration I

This unit of course work is concerned with the use of Drama to explore ideas and issues in response to stimulus material. Students have the opportunity to use Explorative Strategies, Drama Medium and Elements of Drama to deepen their knowledge and This unit of course work is concerned with the use of Drama to explore ideas and issues understanding of an issue and to communicate this thought the medium of drama.

UNIT 2 -Drama Exploration II

This unit of coursework is concerned with the exploration of a play. The aim of the unit is to give student’s knowledge and understanding of the ways in which play-writes, performers and directors use the medium of drama to communicate their ideas to an audience. Use of Explorative Strategies, Drama Medium and Elements of Drama demonstrate student’s abilities.

ASSESSMENT

Practical—Improvisation, use of Explorative Strategies (hot seating, still image etc.), drama medium and the elements of drama

Written—portfolio covering - Response, Development and Evaluation

 Internally marked and externally moderated

PAPER 2 DRAMA PERFORMANCE  40%

This paper is concerned with the skills required in drama to perform work to an audience.  Students have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills as a performer using appropriate material as stimulus for performance.

Working in groups of up to 6, students devise, write, direct and perform an original piece of theatre.   Working time is between 6—10 weeks.

ASSESSMENT

Externally examined by a visiting examiner to the centre

KS5

Unit1-Exploration of Drama and Theatre -2 Plays are studied in depth

Unit2-Text in Performance 1- Teacher directed Production of a play

Unit3-Text in Context 1- 2 hour written exam

Unit4-Devising- Devising a drama for a target audience

Unit5-Text in Performance 2- Performance of an adapted text

Unit6-Text in Context 2- Written exam on the study of 2 text.
