The department aims to give students an understanding of the nature and scope of business activities and the economic environment in which they operate. It seeks to equip students with interpersonal skills to foster the ability to work with others. In Years 12 and 13 the need for a vocational bias to the work is emphasized and the preparation of students for the world of work is kept in clear focus.
The Business Studies and Economics Department offers a spectrum of courses from the sphere of business education utilizing links with many local employers such as Tate and Lyle and the Newham Business Partnership Scheme. Courses range from integrated approaches to business education embraced by GCSE Business Studies, to skill specific subjects such as GCE Advanced Level Economics. Given the dynamic nature of business, the department breathes life into the subject with a series of visiting speakers in Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE as well as arranging visits to outside organisation such as Cadbury World, Tate & Lyle and Disneyland Resort Paris. Economics students have the opportunity to visit the London Stock Exchange and the Bank of England.
