INTRODUCTION
St. Angela’s Ursuline School is an 11-18 voluntary-aided girls’ school founded by the Ursuline Sisters in 1862 and now under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Brentwood. The primary aim of the school is the education of Catholic children in accordance with its trust deed and St. Angela’s seeks at all times to foster the growth of pupils’ understanding and appreciation of their faith.
The Governors of St. Angela’s Ursuline School intend to admit 180 pupils into Year 7 for the academic year 2007/2008. They invite applications for admission from those who desire a Catholic education for their children. Applications for places at St. Angela’s for admission in September 2006 were: 557
Priority of admission will be given to girls who are baptised, practising Catholics and whose parent(s) make St. Angela’s School their first choice school.
Parent(s) must be fully prepared to support the Catholic nature and ethos of St. Angela’s as described in the school prospectus.
The Governors’ understanding of the term ‘practising Catholics’ is as follows:
When the word ‘Catholic’ is used in the criteria it will be taken to mean ‘a child who is a baptised member of the Roman Catholic Church’. When the word ‘practising’ is used it will be taken to mean ‘a Catholic who has made First Holy Communion and who regularly attends worship in the Catholic Church’. Catholic applicants will be required to support their application with a Parish Priest reference, which will confirm practice, and copies of Baptismal, and First Holy Communion Certificates.
In the event of over-subscription the level of practice will be used as the deciding factor taking into consideration:
- date of reception of the first sacraments i.e. Baptism and First Holy Communion
- contribution to the life of the faith community.
Applicants who make St. Angela’s a second choice or do not produce a parish priest’s reference/minister’s supporting letter with their application will not qualify within their respective category and should not assume an offer of a place.
In the event of over-subscription applicants will be considered in the following order of priority.
1. Baptised Roman Catholic girls, who have made their First Holy Communion, whose permanent residence is within one of the following Roman Catholic parish boundaries of the Newham Deanery, and who attend Newham Deanery Roman Catholic primary school, and who with their parent(s) practise regularly, and this is confirmed by a supportive Parish Priests reference.
